Betsson Closes Casino Days Deal, Adds Ontario Blackjack

  • Betsson paid 64.5 million euros for the Canadian business, 51.25 million euros upfront and the rest deferred.
  • Casino Days holds an Ontario registration, so its blackjack tables must disclose rules of play and payout information.
  • Ontario’s regulator fined the Casino Days operator C$54,000 last year over a bonus demanding C$70,000 wagered in seven days.
  • A 6:5 natural instead of 3:2 costs about 1.39 percentage points of edge, roughly C$27.80 an hour at C$25 across 80 hands.

TORONTO – Betsson AB completed its 64.5 million euro purchase of Rhino Entertainment Group’s Canadian business on Aug. 3, taking ownership of Casino Days and its Ontario live-dealer blackjack lobby alongside the Betsafe site the Swedish operator already runs in the province.

Betsson Paid 64.5 Million Euros And Still Owes 13.25 Million

Betsson said on Aug. 3 that the deal had closed, covering several Rhino Group entities that hold the assets, licenses, personnel and operations behind the consumer business in Ontario and the rest of Canada, plus Rhino’s front-end and middleware technology.

When it announced the transaction on March 12, Betsson put the total consideration at 64.5 million euros. The upfront payment was 51.25 million euros, leaving 13.25 million euros due six months after closing.

That price valued the business at roughly 4.7 times enterprise value to EBITDA against 13.7 million euros of 2025 pro forma earnings. Betsson guided completion for the second or third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory clearances, and closed inside that window. The technology it picked up will feed its business-to-business licensing revenue.

What An Ontario Registration Forces A Blackjack Table To Show

Casino Days runs in Ontario through registrant Well Played Media, which puts it under the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario’s Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming. Those standards require the rules of play to be easily available before a player places a bet, and to carry the odds of winning, the payout odds or the return to player. An offshore site answers to no such requirement, and that is the practical difference between the two lobbies.

That disclosure is worth a specific number at a blackjack table. On a six-deck shoe where the dealer stands on soft 17, doubling after splits is allowed and late surrender is offered, perfect basic strategy leaves the house about 0.34%. Move the natural from 3:2 to 6:5 and the same table costs roughly 1.39 percentage points more.

The frequency has not moved. A natural still lands on about 4.75% of opening hands. What shrank is what the house pays for it, and the house edge is precisely that gap. For a C$25 player at 80 hands an hour, the 6:5 rule alone runs about C$27.80 an hour. In Ontario the rules that set the blackjack house edge have to be on the screen before a player commits money to the table.

A Bonus No Blackjack Player Could Clear In Seven Days

In June 2025 the AGCO penalized Well Played Media C$54,000 over a Casino Days welcome offer advertising up to C$2,000. Collecting it required a C$2,000 deposit and C$70,000 of wagering inside seven days, capped at C$5 per wager, with some of the governing terms buried behind multiple links on the site.

The regulator’s analysis found that an average player would lose about C$3,640 before earning the C$2,000. Karin Schnarr, the AGCO’s chief executive and registrar, said player protection is not negotiable and that promotions cannot be built to encourage reckless play.

The C$5 cap is what closed the door on table players. At five dollars a hand, C$70,000 of turnover is 14,000 wagers, and a live dealer online blackjack table running about 80 hands an hour would need roughly 175 hours of play. A seven-day window holds 168.

The offer was not merely expensive for a blackjack player. It was arithmetically out of reach, and the AGCO found it breached three standards covering socially irresponsible promotion, offers requiring substantial loss, and disclosure at first presentation.

Two Registered Brands Chasing The Same Ontario Player

Casino Days now sits inside a group that already held an Ontario registration through Betsafe, giving Betsson two registered brands chasing the same provincial blackjack player, both bound to the same standards. A registered lobby has to post what the standards require, and an offshore one posts only what it chooses to, which is the split most players shopping for legal online blackjack never see. The deferred 13.25 million euros falls due in early February, six months after closing.
